Funds


The Mount Dora Community Trust provides funds to assist with various issues important to our community with more than over 80 funds, endowments, and trusts.  See below for a full list of the funds currently offered by the Trust.


Types of Funds:


General Philanthropic Funds

These funds are an easy choice for donors who want to support local causes but wish to leave their selection and grant conditions to the Trust’s Distribution Committee.


MOUNT DORA GENERAL PHILANTHROPIC FUND

Disbursements from the General Fund are made at the discretion of the Distribution Committee and designated for educational, charitable or benevolent purposes within the Mount Dora area.


ROBERT MORTON ENDOWMENT

This fund was established as a memorial to Robert Morton, who was active in Mount Dora civic affairs and a long-time supporter of Mount Dora Community Trust.


Agency Funds

Agency funds are organized for the funding of an agency or organization through charitable donations.


CORNERSTONE HOSPICE FUND

The mission of Cornerstone Hospice is to make quality hospice care available to all persons, their families, and those affected by death and dying in our community; to advocate effectively for patients’ comfort, dignity and choice; and to be recognized as the leading resource in clinical, ethical, and spiritual issues of dying and grief. The Endowment for Cornerstone Hospice here at MDCT is to provide perpetual giving to its organizational needs while the principal of donations to this fund, stay intact.


LAKE CARES COMMUNITY FUND

Lake Cares Food Pantry  has been serving the community since 2009. In 2019 they served 51,760 individuals and distributed over 15,000 pounds of food each week. The LCFP Board of Directors have created this endowment as a means for donors to give perpetually and ensure Lake Cares is around for decades to come.


MD CHAMBER FOUNDATION

Established by the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce to provide support and funding for capital improvements, operational expenses (excluding regular budgeted payroll), event/tourism expenses, and economic development.


OMEGA LAMBDA GAMMA FUND

Omega Lambda Gamma (ΩΛΓ) is a program put together by MDPD and MDHS for MDHS students. This organization seeks to keep student athletes on track socially and academically in order to obtain scholarship and excel in potential college programs. This fund supports their operations and student scholarships.


Corporate Endowments

Corporate foundations (or company-sponsored foundations) are philanthropic organizations that are created and financially supported by a corporation. The foundation is created as a separate legal entity from the corporation, but with close ties to the corporation.


TAVARES POLICE CHARATIES

This fund was established to support the community by providing necessities and holiday gifts for children living below poverty level, animal welfare, unexpected medical care, education, arts and culture, mental health, community development, children and family services, food insecurity, homelessness and human services, and any other charitable areas determined by the Tavares Police Charities Advisory Committee.


Donor Advised Funds

Donor advised funds provide a flexible way to contribute assets over time and recommend grants for the local charities and causes you most want to support. While IRS regulations require the Trust’s governing body to maintain ultimate legal control over distributions, the Committee takes donor recommendations into consideration.


ARMES CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

This charitable foundation was established by Bob and Linda Armes to further the community.


BE TRUE

Established by generous donors to support; youth and women adventure education, aviation, support for outdoor recreation including hiking trails/environmental upkeep, veterans services – including support for their families, women in transition, post-traumatic incidence assistance- including healthcare services, assistance to the families and infants born with medical needs, and local charitable needs that may arise during their lifetime. 


THE BROWN FAMILY FOUNDATION

Established by a generous donor for youth mentorship and business entrepreneurs, to provide education to young men and women in both social skills, emotional skills, and business skills to enable independency, self-sufficiency, and success.


CAREY BAKER CHARITABLE FUND

Established by Senator Carey Baker from excess campaign funds for philanthropic, educational scholarships and public interest bequests for the local community and state of Florida.


DYNAMIC ENERGY EXCHANGE

This fund has been established with the purpose of providing funds for a variety of charitable organizations or causes, such as; to benefit children and their families in the foster care system, to provide funds for education-based organizations for children and adults, to assist animal welfare and advocacy organizations, for organizations in the field of neuroscience, and for land preservation or community garden organizations. 


EPAILLARD FAMILY ENDOWMENT

Will be destined to explore community needs and will not, in the short term be limited to any one type of charitable need.


THE FIRST NATIONAL BANK FUND

Established to provide assistance to families in need.


FIRST PENINSULA CHARITABLE FUND

The First Peninsula Charitable Fund was started for the benefit of the local community.


GUENTHER FAMILY FOUNDATION

Created by the Guenther Family of G3 Development to provide support and philanthropic funds to the most deserving parts our community.


KIM Y STEWART LEGACY FUND

Established by Kim Stewart to support animal welfare, historic preservation, the disadvantaged or needy, economic development, and other non-profit organizations.


THE KLINGBEIL FAMILY CHARITABLE FUND

Created up by Mr. and Mrs. William Klingbeil to assist the needs with in the community.


MAC & LAV. CLAYTON FOUNDATION

Founded by Ozell Ward and Dale Clayton in memory of their parents, this fund assists educational, cultural, and social activities in Northeast Mount Dora


MDHS STADIUM IMPROVEMENT FUND

Established by Mount Dora High School alumni to receive contributions benefitting the restoration and construction costs of rehabilitating and eventually maintaining the Mount Dora High School Stadium.

M.I.K.E FUND (MENTAL ILLNESS AND KINDNESS ENDOWMENT)

Established by Joe Ziler after losing his younger brother, Mike Ziler, to suicide in 2013. Funds are used to support programs that focus on mental health awareness and suicide prevention.


RICH CRITTERS FUND

The Rich Critters Fund was established by Marie Rich for animal welfare and it continues that goal today helping provide spay and neuter programs in addition to giving assistance to low income families with pets by providing pet food.


TEACHER LEGACY ENDOWMENT FUND

Established by a group of citizens to create an endowment fund for the Mount Dora Teacher Legacy Project. Providing support and funding for teachers in Mount Dora.


TEACHER LEGACY OPERTATIONS FUND

Established by a group of citizens to support the operational expenses of the Teacher Legacy Steering Committee.


TOUCHSTONE COMMUNITY FIRST FOUNDATION

This foundation was created by the broker and owner of Touchstone, Addie Owens. A percentage of the commission on “Community First Homes” sold by Touchstone aids in various causes for the community.


THE TURNER CHARITABLE TRUST

Established by Tom and Debra Turner to provide funding for charitable purposes.


UNCLE FRANK FUND FOR WORKING FAMILIES

Don and Darlene Magruder set to create the “Uncle Frank Fund for Working Families” in honor of Darlene’s Uncle Frank Parker whose generosity at the time of their marriage in 1979 was never forgotten and who made a living working with is hands while giving freely of his heart to those who needed a lift in life. This fund will support organizations which promote affordable housing, educational enhancements, and recreation programs for working families and children. 
 

THE WILLIAMS FUND

Steve, Marcus and Sam Williams initiated this fund primarily for education, youth activities, and scouting.


Field of Interest Funds

This group of funds is ideal for donors passionate about specific issues, such as education, healthcare, the arts, religious instruction or any other that may be important to the community.


A. LEE FRENCH FAMILY TRUST

The A. Lee French Family Trust is to be used exclusively for the use and benefit of a charitable organization which provides care for domestic or wild animals, or birds, for a public or charitable purpose, and not operated for profit. Any such organization shall be exempt from Federal Taxes under IRC Section 501(c)(3), in order to be a recipient of a distribution from this Trust.


DISASTER RESPONSE FUND

Established by the Mount Dora Community Trust to have a resource ready to receive gifts in the event of a disaster. Grants funds to nonprofit agencies to provide temporary relief for persons who are in need and distressed because of a natural or manmade disaster.


EAST TOWN COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Established by Bobby and Rona Rowe to provide support or funding for The Mount Dora Historic East Town area, residents, businesses, and any other charitable organization that benefits Mount Dora Historic East Town.


FRANK BROWN YOUTH FUND

Established by Frank Brown to provide funds for projects that benefit the Mount Dora youth between the ages of eight (8) and eighteen (18).


GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT VISUAL ART FUND

The local Girls’ Night Out group provides periodic donations to this fund through Mount Dora Community Trust to fund visual arts projects of their choosing in the surrounding area. This fund came to be after the group realized there were greater causes than their gift exchanges and instead shifted their focus to charitable donations celebrating the fact that anyone can make a difference.


HAGERTY SWIM TRUST

This trust was established to provide funds for the support of competitive swimming for youth in the Mount Dora area.


LIVERIGHT ENDOWMENT FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

This endowment will assist and promote live performances of the performing arts (preferably classical and/or church music) sponsored or produced by non-profit and/or religious organizations headquartered within the city limits of Mount Dora.


MAGGIE EVANS FUND

Maggie Evans left special provisions in her Last Will and Testament for the creation of a sub-fund for the benefit of assisting lesser-known organizations whose mission is to care for abandoned, abused, or neglected animals.


MOUNT DORA CONCERT FOUNDATION

Established by the Mount Dora Community Concert Association to provide financial assistance to Mount Dora area students for music education in the form of camps, seminars/workshops, scholarships or other musical related areas.


MOUNT DORA FRIENDS OF THE ENVIRONMENT FUND

This Fund was created to provide support for environmental issues, and specifically to promote and maintain the planting of trees within Mount Dora city limits. The fund wishes to aid the City and private residents in cultivating the local tree canopy. Designated Beneficiary Funds

This fund group is perfect for donors who want to benefit particular groups or organizations dear to them.


ALICE EDGAR MEMORIAL FUND

Established by Samuel W. Edgar in honor of his wife to provide benefit to Hospice of Lake & Sumter, Inc., Golden Triangle YMCA, Mount Dora Public Library, and the Congregational Church of Mount Dora.


BREAST CANCER DIAGNOSIS FUND “PINK TEA”

This fund raises money through an annual tea fundraiser – “Pink Tea”. It was created by concerned women to assist those women in Lake County in financial need to purchase mammograms or other medical assistance.


CHARLES EDGERTON MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN ENDOWMENT FUND

Established to provide income for the maintenance of the Charles Edgerton Memorial Fountain in Donnelly Park.


FIRST ROBOTICS TEAM 1557 “12 VOLT BOLT”

FIRST Robotics Team 1557 “12 Volt Bolt” is an inclusive organization made up of students and their mentors from throughout Lake County, Florida. They promote science and technology while developing life, career, and leadership skills. They build robots, but also build relationships. The mentors volunteer their time and help the students fundraise to assist in the costs of building robots for competitions.


HAROLD AND JANET ESCH ENDOWMENT FUND

Provide grants and/or scholarship funds to the Christian Home and Bible School, home program.


LAKES & HILLS GARDEN CLUB

Established to provide scholarship funds for a student studying Horticulture, Landscaping, Natural Land and Chemical Sciences.


LIGHTHOUSE WALK ENDOWMENT FUND

Established to provide for maintenance for the lighthouse area at Gilbert Park.


MARTENSEN, REID, AND GARDNER MEMORIAL FUND

In honor of Leon C. Martensen, Rena M. Reid, and Helen F. Gardner, this endowment fund was established by Ms. Reid in her estate planning. Its purpose is to provide for recreational facilities in east Mount Dora.


MOUNT DORA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION ENDOWMENT FUND

Gifts and bequests to benefit Mount Dora’s W. T. Bland Public Library.


MOUNT DORA SISTER CITIES ENDOWMENT FUNDS I and II

Established by members of the Mount Dora Sister Cities Association to promote goodwill between Mount Dora and her Sister City of Forres, Scotland. The second fund was created by Donald McPeek to be used only for student travels to Sister Cities.


REST & RENEW FOUNDATION

Established for fundraising charitable donations to promote mental, brain, and physical health. Specifically to purchase or build a Ranch (facility) to provide whole-person healing for women who have been diagnosed with mental health issues and post attempted suicide care. 


SERENITY PARK FUND

Serenity Park is a project at the corner of 9th Avenue and Tremain Street in Mount Dora. Under Ms. Mary Miller and friends leadership, they saw potential to add greenery, beauty, and serenity to yet another area of Mount Dora.  This Sub Trust provides tax-exempt status to donors and help the parks renovation.


Sponsorships

Sponsorships are available up to $500.00 for events and projects in the community.

Marketing materials for the event should have the Mount Dora Community Trust logo and/or an ad in a program.

Our banner is available for use during the event.

Any sponsorship request from a school must be authorized by the Principal or Headmaster.
